The Northern Hemisphere 2025 Breeding Season Approaches

Breeders will be starting to make decisions and enquiries about stallions for their mares.  It would have been the hope of all responsible breeders that the whole issue of HWSD mis-information and dis-information would have died a natural death by now.  But sadly no.

Responsible breeders are not going to send carrier mares to carrier stallions.  But what if the prospective stallion that you enquire about, the owner obfucates the HWSD status of their stallion?  Or even downright lies?  Where does that leave the mare owner when such a breeding results in an affected foal being born?

Irish pony farmers are still producing HWSD/HWSD affected ponies!

It is TEN years since the HWSD test became universally available; why are there still affected ponies being born?   This is not happening in other jurisdictions where the Connemara pony is bred; why is it still happening in Ireland?

It all comes back to honesty, or the lack of it.

If you are wanting information on an Irish stallion your first port of call should ALWAYS be the CPBS database.

Here you will find much relevant information about a prospective mate for your mare, carrier or not.

What is really, really sad, is that it takes someone who lives half a world away, to call people out on such matters.

Get with it people in Ireland and Northern Ireland, if you want to preserve the integrity of the Connemara pony in the eyes of the world, it would appear that some of you seem to need to undergo an honesty transfusion.
